If you’d like to become a leader, it’s never too early to start. YMCA Camp Pinewood offers a two-year program for high school-aged teens who want to become counselors or leaders in their community. Complete the Leader in Training course in order to move onto the Counselor in Training program the following year.

The LIT session at Camp Pinewood is the first step in our leadership program. The goal of the program is not only to teach participants about leadership qualities but to foster those qualities in themselves in a safe and fun atmosphere.
The program includes:

• Teambuilding activities and individual challenges
• Discussions and observation of different types of leadership
• Assist in running camp programs and activities
• 4 day wilderness trip

The experience in the LIT program is one that participants will be able to use at camp as well as back home in leadership roles at school, on teams, in the workplace, and in the community.

LIT - Available Session 3

Counselor-In-Training

The CIT session at Camp Pinewood is specifically designed for those teens interested in becoming a camp counselor. Participants begin to learn the ins and outs of how a camp functions and the role a counselor plays in the big picture.
The program includes:

• A brief version of our staff training learning many skills our staff do
• Learn to work with children and be a positive role model
• Learn the basics of teaching classes and following lesson plans
• Visit other YMCA camps in the area to experience other programs

At the completion of the session, participants may be invited to return to camp later in the summer as a volunteer in a cabin to gain the full experience of what it is like to be a camp counselor.

CIT - Available Session 2 & 4

Participants in the CIT program must have completed the LIT program. Space is limited!
