Leadershp training

If you’d like to become a leader, it’s never too early to start. YMCA Camp Pinewood offers a two-year program for high school-aged campers who want to become counselors. Complete the Leader in Training course to qualify for the Counselor in Training program the following year. Graduates are then eligible to become Junior Counselors.

2008 training schedule
Leader in Training June 22 - June 27
Leader in Training July 13 - July 18
Counselor in Training July 29 - July 11

In addition to attending workshops, leadership participants help organize camp activities, work with the staff, complete service projects, assist younger campers, and work on high ropes and adventure trips.

Trainees often work the high ropes.

5 reasons to be a counselor-in-training
  1. Be a role model – there are few more positive influences in a child’s life than a camp counselor. Joining our training program is the first step.

  2. Meet people from around the world -- in the past, trainees and counselors have come from all over the United States, Europe, Africa and Australia. Usually, these diverse co-workers become friends for life.

  3. Start a resume’ – The training program leads to a position as a camp counselor, the kind of job that proves your leadership abilities.

  4. Learn new skills – from archery to CPR, you will gain knowledge that will enrich your life and help others at the same time.

  5. Because you can – the time to begin training is now, while you are still young enough to complete your courses and apply for a position at Camp Pinewood when you reach college.
